Let me say how amazed I have been at all of the support and encouragement I have received since starting this campaign.
I am not only surprised by how many people have been willing to stand up with me to call for real action on the issues facing our county, but I’m also impressed with how much people demand and respect specifics on the issues facing us.
It is not enough to talk in broad generalities: people want to know their Council member will be ready to jump in head first on the issues affecting them.
That is something I can do. I don’t know the answers to every problem facing our community. At the same time, my experience gives me the background necessary to get involved in the details on day one.
Probably one of the most important tasks of the County Council is the budget.
If you owned an organization with a $1 billion budget, would you want someone with experience running it? I know I would.
The reality is that we DO own an organization with a $1 billion dollar budget: it is our County.
I’ve run my own business for long enough to know that budgeting is the only way to maintain a healthy company.
That process didn’t come easily though. I learned a lot through trial and error, and that was okay, because it was MY money.
Working with taxpayer dollars is different–and it should be treated differently.
We need someone who understands how budgeting works, how we have to set priorities, and how to ensure that we stay solvent while working on the issues that are most important to the public.
This also means making hard decisions.
I want to hear what you have to say about our budget and our priorities.
What do you think we could do together to make Salt Lake County better?
Let me know. Email me at email@example.com or call my cell at 801-834-3039.
I look forward to hearing from you.
